Speech Title: Computer Vision for Cyber threat detection
Biography: Dr. Sheeba Armoogum is an Associate Professor at the Department of Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) at the University of Mauritius (UoM). She has a PhD in Cybersecurity and she is a recipient of the South African Patent in the field of Cybersecurity ascribed to the Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (IDPS). Her fields of research & study are Cybersecurity, Cyber Forensics, Digital Forensic Investigation, Cyberpsychology, Cryptography, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, and Wireless/Mobile Communication & Networking. Dr Sheeba is certified in both Research Ethics and Research Ethics Evaluation. She was the past Head of the Department of ICT (2017-2019) and currently heads the CyberSecurity & Forensics Research Group (CSFRG) at the University of Mauritius.
She served as a member of the Editorial Board of reputed International Journals and as a reviewer for International Journals and Conferences, as a subject specialist in the field of Cybersecurity for accreditation of the programmes at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Mauritius, and as Technical Expert at the Mauritius Accreditation Services (MAURITAS).
To disseminate knowledge in Cybersecurity and related, to promote awareness and understanding of cybercrimes, and their impact, she was engaged as Keynote Speaker / Main Speaker / Invited Speaker / Panellist Speaker at the National and International levels for the events: 2022 International Conference on Intelligent and Innovative Computing Applications (ICONIC 2022), Number Resource Society (NRS) Seminar 2022, Women In Tech Africa 2022, Innovation Duality 5.0: Industry 5.0 Conference 2022, ERASMUS+ programme in Lublin, Poland 2022, Mauritius Research & Innovation Council (MRIC) conference 2022, Women In Tech Africa 2021, Mauritius|Africa Fintech Hub (MAFH) 2021.
She is an active member of International Committees like the Africa Region to International Cyber Security (AFRICC) Steering Committee and the International Cybersecurity Challenge (ICC) Steering Committee and represents Southern Africa as Deputy Secretariate for both committees. She mentors and coaches Mauritian participants in the International Cybersecurity Challenge (ICC) competition.
She is a recipient of the Women Icon Outstanding Academician Award 2022, Asia's Innovative Award in Cybersecurity 2022 and Women Icon Nobel Researcher Award of the year 2023.
